Media mileage
It’s really amazing (but not exactly surprising) how much publicity the Mindanao Bloggers Summit has been getting. On the ‘net alone, the traffic generated by bloggers has been terrific! But ‘offline’ as well, there’s been some buzz going around, thanks to our avid supporters.
Twice now I’ve appeared on TV, as I was invited on two separate occasions to promote the event. The first time was on Talk Mindanao, which airs in various cities, and is hosted by the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCo). In Davao, the monthly show airs on SkyCable’s Channel 28. That episode was taped more than a month ago, but I guess it’s still showing because I keep getting comments about it from people I meet.
The second time was just this morning on GMA. The producers of Una Ka Bai! found out about MBS1 (through Mo Billacura, I presume), and they asked me to come to the morning talk show. It was my very first time on live TV!
Of course, the local dailies have also carried news and feature items promoting the Summit. I’d like to thank my friends in the media for helping us get the word out about MBS1 in particular, and blogging in general.
It’s like a parent-child relationship — traditional media holding the hand of new media, the former nurturing the latter until it grows and matures. And the time will come when new media (all the various forms of communication powered by the Internet) will develop fully and become the dominant source of information worldwide. But until then, we bloggers still benefit from the wisdom and experience of our colleagues in traditional media.

Since we come from great distances, we can only be with you in spirit and animo.
Some liveblogging during the different segments of the summit maybe?
More power!
Keep up the good work Blogie. I watched this morning’s live program at GMA’s Una ka Bai! and thanks for the mention.
@Amadeo — There will be 6 Internet-enabled PCs for us during the Summit, and the whole place is a wifi hotspot for those who have laptops. So, I suppose someone will do live-blogging…
@Peter — My pleasure!

@Marco — Yeah we’re planning on a Christmas Party, para itaon sa awarding ng You Got Blogged! contest.
Certificate of Attendance? Sorry, wala eh…
@Aice — It was good to finally meet you too! Sayang di tayo masyado nakapagkuwentuhan. Was running all over the place eh, wasn’t I? hehehehe!
I am the father of Charlotte Denise Doble, the child featured last Oct. 22 in Sikat Ka Kid! I am happy to watch my child & I give credits to GMA’s show Una Ka Bai! I would be very happy if I can have a copy of that clip/segment as a remembrance. I look forward to a positive response. Thank you!
@chubby doble — Hello there! Sorry but I’m not with GMA, and I don’t know how to go about getting transcripts of Una Ka Bai’s shows. Maybe you could try calling their office in Davao?
